Lead-Free Process Training and Exhibition Weeks in Timisoara, Romania

From 7 to 18 July 2008 the first two-week event devoted to lead-free SMD production processes will take place in Timisoara, Romania. The event was initiated by the Fraunhoferinstitut (ISIT) in Itzehoe, Germany, and will be organised and held in co-operation with the local chamber of commerce and technical university. JUKI is a partner of the event and is providing support in the form of a KE-2080 and a TR-6 plate changer.

The event will take place over a period of two weeks in the building of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce, Timisoara. It is divided into a primarily theoretical first week with a seminar-like character and a second week of more practical activities. An open event will be held on Wednesday 9 July, in which the partner companies will exhibit their activities to interested members of the public. The registered participants will receive training focussed on the entire lead-free SMT production process. Topics of particular focus will be "paste pressure", "reflow soldering", "profile optimisation", "AOI" and "wave soldering and selective soldering".

  Timisoara                                                Timisoara Chamber of Commerce

The aim of the event is to bring the collective expertise of the Fraunhofer Institut to Eastern Europe, where more and more new large companies are setting up their SMT production facilities, alongside many firms already established in the region.

Romania, and in particular Timisoara, was selected for the event because a relatively large number of SMT production companies are situated in this region and thus the idea of the event was met with great interest by both the local chamber of commerce and the technical university.

The idea for the event was first conceived by Dr Thomas Ahrens of the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology (ISIT) in Itzehoe, Germany. ISIT has a technology and competence centre for lead-free electronics manufacturing. At this institute companies can use a training line to learn how to convert their production process to lead-free without loss of productivity and to optimise it. Special training is also offered for employees. For the placement on its training line, ISIT has selected - after extensive evaluation - a JUKI KE-2060R.
